An executive committee meeting of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA)-Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter was held for the first time in Ludhiana on Saturday evening in which noted architects from the state participated. They said,Lack of coordination between various bodies such as MC,GLADA,LIT and others is the major reason for congestion and town planning in the city.
Manmohan Khanna, chairman IIA-Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter chaired the meeting. Sanjay Goel from Ludhiana said that he has also requested the Union through city MP Manish Tewari to form a Ministry of Architecture in the country.
The architects highlighted that Ludhiana despite being a major upcoming metropolis in India,is not being taken care of by the administrative authorities.
There is a need for a single agency that would work in the planning and development of the city in a proper way. Now it is being looked after by numerous agencies like LMC,GLADA,LIT,PSIEC,HOUSEFED,PWD etc and these agencies have negligible coordination resulting in delayed as well as poor implementation of town planning, said the architects.
Administrative authorities are regularly visiting other countries to learn and implement better strategies but that hasn’t happened so far. Ludhiana is the financial capital of Punjab, but till date it does not have up to the mark infrastructure, the architects added.
