Industry seeks more facilities from fire dept

Concerned over a fire at garment factory on Diwali,the Chamber of industrial and commercial undertakings (CICU) urged the Mayor and Commissioner Municipal Corporation to strengthen the fire brigade as the industry pays heavy property taxes such as fire cess,licence fee,Octroi on electricity whereas industry is not given proper facilities.

Upkar Singh joint secretary,CICU said,“Even though fire cess is being charged with property tax no adequate arrangement is in place to control fire.”

The fire tenders are very old and the staff is not efficient. Sometimes the lid of pipe does not work and is not able to spray water. Also a large number of employees are nearing retirement.
