74,118 deaths occur due to cervical cancer annually
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) celebrated International Womens Day at the IMA House on Monday by launching a campaign against cancer. The program was attended by 250 doctors. IMA chief Dr Narotam Dewan said,There is a need to address the health problems of the female population. These problems are often ignored as male child is given preference in the Indian society and women are so busy in looking after the children and household work that have no time to take care of themselves. There is a lack of awareness about the early symptoms of dreadful diseases like cancer of cervix or breast cancer. Dr Veena Jain,spoke about the prevention and early detection of cancer of cervix. She said it was the commonest cancer of female genital tract. Annually,1,32,082 cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed and 74,118 deaths occur due to this cancer. Pap smear screening lesion diagnosed at pre-invasive stage and treated. Thus,pap smear is secondary prevention of cervical cancer. Infection with human papilloma virus is present in 99.7 per cent cases of cervical cancer and is the causative agent.

Womens Day celebrations at college
NSS unit of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women organised a lecture on the occasion of the International Womens Day under the guidance of Surinder Dua,officiating principal. The lecture was delivered by Neelam Nayyar and Sangeeta Sharma on women empowerment.
Legal literacy camp held in jail
The district legal services observed Womens Day at womens jail by organising a legal literacy camp. Daljit Singh Bhatti,jail superintendent,apprised the inmates about the relevance of the day. Arvind Markan,additional district attorney,informed the inmates about free legal aid available,lok adalats,NREGA,domestic violence act and other rights of the women.
