Granthi arrested for rape of minor
The Focal Point police arrested a granthi (priest),wanted for rape of a nine-year-old girl,on Thursday. As per SHO Sandeep Wadhera,a complaint had been lodged by the father of the girl on July 27,that his daughter had gone to pay obeisance at the local gurdwara,where Amarpreet Singh,the granthi,locked her up in a room and raped her.

Two arrested for kidnap,rape of minor
The Focal Point police on Thursday arrested two Uttar Pradesh youths,Arjan and Ahemjeet,for kidnapping and raping a minor girl. ADCP Sushil Kumar said the girl had gone missing from the Focal Point area in June. A complaint was lodged with the police on the basis of a statement recorded by her father. The two youths were booked under Sections 363,366 A 120 B and 376 of the IPC. Arjan was arrested on July 24 and Ahemjeet was picked up four days later.

49 constables honoured
As many as 49 constables of the district were honoured for their 16 years of work,and were given promotions by Harinder Singh Chahal,IPS,SSP Ludhiana Rural and his deputy Satinderpal Singh. All the constables will be sent for a two-month refresher course to PPA Phillaur.

One held for murder
The Division Number 8 police claimed to have solved a blind murder case and arrested the main accused on Thursday. As per SHO Maninder Bedi,Buta Singh,a resident of Chaminda village near Jodhan,who worked as a guard at Kunal Towers Mall Road,was the man behind the murder. Buta had procured fake certificates in the name of Devinder Singh and was working under this name. He reportedly had illicit relationship with his aunt and used to visit the home of one Shamsher Singh,who,too,worked as a guard. Soon Buta Singh’s aunt and Shamsher developed closeness,which did not go down well with him,said police. Shamsher also owed money to Buta,which he refused to return. Buta then accosted Shamsher near the Government College for Girls on July 16 and stabbed him to death.

Murder accused held
The Focal Point police have solved a murder case registered in September. As per SHO Focal Point Sandeep Wadhera,Ashok Kumar,a migrant who was residing in Sherpur Kalan,was killed and his brother Mukesh Kumar had registered a complaint with the police. Acting on a tip off,a police team headed by the SHO,arrested one Gurmeet Singh,who told police that he committed the crime to get the deceased’s mobile phone and Rs 500,with which he wanted to buy drugs.
