Work on multiplex halted
The digging for a multiplex under construction on the land of old session courts was stopped on Thursday by the industry department,because the contractor did not have permission. Industry department GM Vishvbandhu said: The work was stopped because the contractor never applied for permission to dig which is a must. Moreover,if they want to sell the mud,they have to take permission for that too and deposit money as per the area. Congress leader Sarabjit Singh Bunty,however,said work is still on and the contractor was selling mud without permission and minting money.
Healthy tiffin competition held
The Everest Model Senior Secondary School,Moti Nagar,organised the healthy tiffin competition on Friday. Students from nursery to Class I participated in the event. Indira Gandhi National Open Universitys Special Study Centre Coordinator Asha Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. She said,A sound mind lives in a sound body. To have a healthy body,it is imperative to provide nutritious food to the tiny-tots. This responsibility rests with their parents and they must ensure that their children partake a well-balanced diet.
CMC organises medical,dental camp
A medical and dental camp was organised by the CMC and Al-Kausar CMC Hospital at Malerkotla in Sangrur on Friday. A team of doctors,nurses and paramedical staff examined nearly 495 patients. They were provided with free medicines. Camp Medical Superintendent Dr Kanwal Masih said,It has always been our endeavour to reach out to the masses and offer quality healthcare.
Student body elected at Kundan Vidya Mandir
The Senior Humanities Forum of Kundan Vidya Mandir organised an investiture ceremony on Friday and 270 students became an integral part of the students Council. Vijay Lakshmi Puri,principal of Drishti R C Jain Innovative school,was the chief guest on the occasion. The newly elected prefects of six houses were handed over sashes. Sidharth Sachdeva of class XII was appointed head boy while Upasna Sharma of class XII was appointed the head girl of the school.
Labour Day today
Various organisations have made elaborate plans to mark May Day. The Art of Living Foundation has decided to hold a rally against global warming. Munish and Pardeep Chopra,organisers of the Ludhiana chapter,said: The rally will start from Guru Nanak Stadium and pass through Fountain Chowk,Dandi Swami,College Road,Ghumar Mandi,Mall road and will conclude at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan. Around 200 volunteers will participate. The local chapter of Indian Medical Association is holding a free medical check-up camp at the IMA House from 3 pm to 6pm. Dr Narottam Dewan,IMA president,said: Labour Day reminds us that labourers need to have limited work hours,should have time for recreation and rest. The norm of eight-hour work,eight-hour recreation and eight-hour rest is a healthy way of living.
