BSNL employees end hunger strike
After getting assurance from Deputy General Manager (Telecom) on behalf of C M Bhanot,General Manager,Ludhiana Telecom,the National Federation of Telecom Employees ended their indefinite hunger strike on Wednesday. Harish Khanna of the federation,said,”The DGM assured us to implement the corporate policy for bringing back the BSNL employees from the rural to urban areas. These employees have been serving there for more than four-and-half years.”

Makkar announces reward for students
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Avtar Singh Makkar awarded students of the Department of Music,Government College for Women,Ludhiana,with a cash prize of Rs 11,000 for their excellent presentation of Shabad Gyan at the recent youth festival of the Panjab University.

Session on post-harvest technology at CIPHET on May 1
A high-level two-day brainstorming session on post harvest technologies would be held at Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) on May 1 and 2. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR’s) Director General Dr A S Ayyapan will preside over the session.

DMCH holds seminar on burns
The Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery on Wednesday organised a seminar on “Burns Update” to enhance the knowledge and skills of the nursing staff working in burns ICU and plastic surgery ward of the hospital. The seminar began today began with lecture on “Primary Care in Burns” by Head of Plastic Surgery and Burns Dr Sanjeev K Uppal,who recommended that the history for diagnosing burn injuries should aim at evaluating time of burn and many other crucial factors. Physical examination and evaluation of burn wounds should include degree and depth of burns and calculation of surface area of burns. The first eight hours after suffering from burn injuries are considered “Golden Period” when patients must be given immediate treatment in forms of IV fluids,antibiotics,painkillers and other medicines.

Prize distribution function held
Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School,B R S Nagar,organised an annual academic prize distribution function on Wednesday. Meritorious students from classes VI – XII were felicitated on the occasion.

Guru Nanak College girls excel
With 100 per cent pass percentage,students of Guru Nanak Girls’ College,Model Town,have excelled in MSc (IT) first semester results as declared by Panjab University,Chandigarh. Kiranpreet Kaur came fifth in the district and first in the college by securing 81.8 per cent. Kirandeep Kaur clinched the second position by securing 79.3 per cent and Kamalpreet Kaur stood third in the college with 77.6 per cent. Principal Charanjit Mahal congratulated the staff and students.
