City professor nominated to GNDU senate
Dr P P S Sohi has been nominated as the member of the senate in Guru Nanak Dev University at Amritsar by the state government. A well-known political scientist,Dr Sohi is currently associate professor of Political Science at SCD Government College for Boys in the city.

Dr Sohi has to his credit extensive work in fields like globalosation,liberalisation and its impact on Punjab,regionalism,criminalisation of politics and has over 700 published articles.

Environment award for Dr Minhas
Dr PS Minhas,Director of Research at Punjab Agricultural University has been conferred with an award in environmental sciences and ecology for 2005. He received the award from D Purandeswari,Minister of State for Human Resource Development,in New Delhi on February 22. Dr Minhas has been awarded for developing technologies that restored the productivity of saline lands and contributed towards carbon sequestration and their reclamation. The citation said his contributions led to a better understanding of ecology and bio-diversity.

Dr Minhas has received several national awards and honours including A R Kidwai Memorial Prize,CSSRI Excellence Award and fellowship of Punjab Academy of Sciences.

PAU to hold session on cereal rusts
In connection with the silver jubilee celebrations of the Indian Society of Plant Pathologists based at Punjab Agricultural University,a session on Recent Status of Cereal Rusts in India is being organised at the university campus on February 26. Eminent plant pathologists from different parts of the country including Dr S Nagarajan,Dr CD Mayee,Dr Anupam Verma,Dr R K Khetarpal,Dr S S Chahal,Dr S M Pal Khurana,Dr O M Bambawale and Dr Satyabir will participate in the seminar.

Workshop on web designing held at college
The GGN Institute of Management & Technology organised a workshop on web designing and programming concepts for BCA and MCA students. Amrik Singh,senior faculty,New Bridge Technologies was the resource person for the day. The workshop concluded with the question-answer round. The students participated very enthusiastically and cleared all their doubts.

MSME holds awareness programme
The Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Institute in Ludhiana organised a one-day awareness programme on quality management systems in collaboration with the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings(CICU) at Focal Point. Upkar Singh,joint secretary,CICU,welcomed the guests,dignitaries and participants.

500 examined at health camp
The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) in collaboration with Joint Council of Trade Unions and Working Women Forum organised a free medical camp at Dhandari Khurd on Tuesday. Over 500 patients were examined and free medicines were distributed,said Dr Arun Mitra,general secretary,IDPD.
