Founders Day celebrated
Vardhman International Public School celebrated the Foundation Day here on Friday. The schoolchildren presented a colourful cultural programme. Manish Tewari,MP,who was the chief guest on the occasion,urged the parents to educate their children in such a way that they become assets to the nation. Dr Anima Jain,the school principal,was also present on the occassion.
UCPMAs chairman bereaved
Gurbaksh Singh,father of Manjit Singh Khalsa,chairman,United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association died on Friday. His funeral will take place on Saturday at 2 pm at Gau Ghat cremation ground,on the backside of Shingar cinema. The United Cycle and parts Manufacturer Association condoled his death in a meeting and observed two minutes silence in his memory.
Topper honoured
Rahul Duggal,who topped classes X,XII and in BCA -1 (handicapped category) was honoured on Friday by Satish Sharma,secretary,Punjab Congress. He was awarded a laptop and a scanner printer at a function held at Basant resort. Dimple Rana,president of the Punjab Youth Congress,was the chief guest on the occasion.
DIG Dr Oraon visits PAU
Dr Arun Oraon (IPS),DIG Vigilance,Punjab,visited the Punjab Agricultural University on Friday and interacted with the farm experts of the university. Born in Jharkhand,Dr Oraon remarked that his forefathers had great interest in farming and that he wanted to take up farming as vocation after retirement. PAU Vice-Chancellor,Dr Manjit Singh Kang presented a set of university publications to Dr Oraon. He was also briefed on various activities of the university.
Farmer-scientist interaction held
Addressing a scientist-farmers interaction at Krishi Vigyan Kendra,Samrala,the Deputy Director,Dr Jugraj Singh said that by adopting the university-recommended technologies in their fields,farmers can improve their profit from the farming. Farm experts also deliberated on various topics. On agronomic practices,Dr Jagrup Kaur,on plant protection,Dr Rubaljot Kooner,on horticulture,Dr Harsimrat Kaur,on home science,Dr Sharanbir Kaur interacted with the farmers. Dr Jugraj Singh said such interactions would regularly be held twice a month and feed-back will be taken from farmers.
Workshop held on rural development
Entrepreneurship Development is the need of the hour if we are to stimulate the farm sector,extension officers should motivate farmers to join hands for the establishment of their own small scale enterprises. This was stated by Dr. S. P. S. Brar,Director PAMETI (Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute) at the inaugural session of the 5-day workshop on Entrepreneurship Development that concluded on 05 February. He added that entrepreneurs can be developed through well-conceived and well-directed activities.
