Artificial limbs distributed
Ludhiana: At a free limb distribution camp organised by the Bharat Vikas Parishad,a non-government organization,on Thursday,55 needy persons were given artificial limbs,tri-cycles,hearing aids etc. Des Raj Marwah an NRI was the chief guest. Vishav Bandhu,general manager Punjab Industries department,and Rajesh Goel,DE BSNL,distributed the artificial limbs to the needy. Pankaj Jindal,Dr Kuldeep,Neelam Gupta were also present there.
Ad company flouts norms
A report in the advertisement committee meeting clearly indicates advertisement company Greenline,who bagged the Rs 8.25 crore contract to display ads in various parts of the city,has flouted rules. They have displayed unipole signs in Sarabha Nagar and Fountain Chowk area while both areas were not included in the tender allotment. More than 30 unipole signs have been found in the two areas from which the company is earning revenue,but not paying the requisite amount to the MC. Joint Commissioner Mohinderpal Gupta has asked the staff to remove the signs within two days and other areas are being surveyed and necessary action would be taken against the contractor as well.
Cardiac surgeon meet in Capital
The Asian Society for Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery and the Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of India held their combined annual meeting in New Delhi on Thursday. It was attended by over 1,500 cardiac surgeons from India and abroad who deliberated on the advances in treatment of complex heart diseases. Dr Harinder Singh Bedi Head of Cardiovascular Surgery at CMC Ludhiana was chosen to deliver five lectures on the surgical management of such critically-ill patients. Dr Bedi was the only speaker invited from the northern region of Punjab,Chandigarh ,Haryana,Himachal Pradesh and J&K. One of the lectures of Dr Bedi was on beating heart surgery in patients who are being operated upon the second time (redo heart surgery).
Seminar hails Union Budget
A seminar on Union Budget was held jointly by the Taxation Bar Association and Institutes of Company Secretaries of India. Girish Ahuja was the main speaker from Delhi. He hailed the Budget saying audit limits were enhanced,which was a good step and even announcement of new slabs for income tax was a big relief.
Three arrested for murder
Three persons were arrested on Thursday on charges of murder of a man identified as Tarsem Singh. The Sadar police arrested Maninder Singh alias Manna,Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha,Parminder Singh alais Babbi after they confessed to have murdered Tarsem on the night of February 3. Another accused,Rajinder Singh,a resident of Shimlapuri,is still absconding.
The four had taken lift from Tarsem when he was returning from Paddi village and near Ishar Singh Nagar they attacked him with knives. They tried to flee with the car but Tarsem shouted for help and people gathered,following which they fled. Police recovered the RC of the car,knives and mobile phone from the killers.
Metro Tyres to invest 50 crore
Metro Tyres Limited,based in Ludhiana,will invest Rs 50 crore in its Ludhiana plant. With this the company aims to increase its manufacturing capacity by three-fold. The company has also obtained ECE approval from the Europeon Union for exporting its motor cycles,said a release.
Demolition drive on Mall Road
The building branch department on Thursday demolished 22 structures outside the malls and showrooms on Mall Road. The owners had been served notices in November but no one had demolished the structures. Today the team demolished the ramps,stairs and other constructions in the parking area and even on MC road. A flower shop and a pan shop were also demolished. Some of the famous showrooms including Nikkamal,Ebony,Elite Arcade and many others are located on this road.
Arora Neuro Centre had made a MRI room in the parking area but he was given time for a day to shift its machine,said zonal commissioner P S Ghumman. “The elites cannot be spared,so our drive is a lesson for them,” said Ghumman.
