Three girls from city qualify for beauty contest
Navjot Kaur,Jugneet Kaur and Rubina Pannu have been selected to represent the city in the grand finale of Fem De Sohney Sohney Mukde of Punjab,a beauty contest to be held on March 6.
The finalists from each city will undergo a two-day rigorous grooming session with beauty experts before they vie with each other for the coveted title of Fem de Sohney Sohney Mukhde of Punjab .
Courts in state should adopt Punjabi as official language
The Universal Human Rights Organisation President Satnam Singh Dhaliwal said even after a year,the courts in the state were yet adopt Punjabi as the official language. It is leading to a great inconvenience to many who are not well versed with English language. Punjabi has become the second language in Haryana,so the state government should give a serious though to get the Punjabi Bhasha Act implemented in Punjab soon,he said.
PAU to hold training course in medicinal plants from Feb 24
The Directorate of Extension Education,PAU,will hold a three-day training course on Entrepreneurship Development Programme for Aromatic and Medicinal Plants from February 24-26. Giving details,Director of Extension Education Dr M S Gill said experts of the university will provide useful tips on various aspects of growing medicinal and aromatic plants,health care,agri-business,export procedure for these crops. The programme will be held in the Kairon Kisan Ghar and will be coordinated by Dr VK Bhambota and Dr TS Riar. The Technical Coordinators will be Dr B S Gill and Dr Ramandeep Singh. Another course on cut flower production and management will be held on February 25-26 for which Dr Ramesh Kumar,Head,Department of Floriculture and Landscaping will be the technical coordinator. Dr Kumar said Dr M S Randhawa Flower Show will be held on February 25-26 in front of the Examination Hall of the University.
Scientific literature in mother tongue can have better outreach
PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang while releasing a book authored by former PAU Dean Dr K S Sekhon said the scientific literature published in mother tongue could have better outreach to the masses. He said that it was the duty of scientists,artists and intellectuals to endeavour publishing scientific works in Punjabi so that the younger generation and those not highly educated were able to get the scientific message understood. The 135 page book entitled,Sehat Bharpoor Khushaal Jeevan Kiven Jeviey has been written in Punjabi and discusses the role of diet and balanced nutrition for human health,food adulteration,healthy body,need for exercise and the hints for better living.
