Huge traffic jams add to chaos

Many out to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on Saturday were left stranded on roads for hours together after the rains caused huge traffic jams. Gagandeep Kaur,a Jalandhar resident started from her place at about 6 am but got stuck at the Jalandhar bypass due to a damaged overbridge. Though authorities diverted traffic,she parked her vehicle and walked from the bypass to her brother’s house in Dugri Phase 2. “ I had no other choice,because i was not well versed with the diverted route. I finally reached home at 5 pm,” Gagan said.

Amarinder Kaur a Rajguru Nagar resident on her way from Chandigarh took 2 hours to reach her house from Samrala chowk. “ At one time,I started crying because the traffic was not clearing at all,” she said. Gaurav Mittal,however,parked his car at Samrala chowk and went home on foot.
