Health camp held for senior citizens at PU

Lack of a proper diet and a healthy life style are the reasons for this.

Hypertension, diabetes, calcium deficiency, osteoarthritis and much more — the majority of senior citizens of PAU suffer from these diseases. Lack of a proper diet and a healthy life style are the reasons for this. This was revealed in the mega health check-up camp organised by the PAU Pensioners’ Association on PAU campus on Sunday.

More than 700 patients were examined by experts from cardiology, orthopeadics and physiotherapy from morning till evening. About 250 patients were examined by Dr Bishav Mohan,a cardiologist from Hero DMCH,along with his team.

Interestingly, the majority of them had no fixed life style despite having a retired life, said Dr Aseem from Dr Mohan’s team. He added,“No doubt, genetic factors matter a lot for such life style problems, but prevention and a healthy life style can reduce such problems.”

Dr J L Bassi and Dr Dhiren Bassi from the ortho section stated that men and women were equally deficient in calcium and had problems of osteoarthritis. Dr Dhiren said,“Normally, such deficiencies are more associated with women, but now men are also equally prone to such deficiencies. Interestingly, many couples were not drinking two glasses of milk a day which is a norm in Punjabi families.”

He added,“One must take milk twice a day apart from green leafy vegetables, nuts and other supplements.”

The patients were also examined by gyane and physiotherapy experts.
