In a special meeting called by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) Complex on Tuesday,it was announced that the development funds for Focal Point have been doubled.
Director,Local Bodies department,S K Sharma said the development funds for Focal Point had been increased from Rs 7 crore to Rs 14 crore.
On August 12,Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia had released Rs 7 crore for development works in the Focal Point area.
The additional Rs 7 crore will be contributed by the Ludhiana civic body. Municipal Commissioner G S Ghuman and Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura,present at the meeting,agreed to it.
The funds will be spent on the re-carpeting of roads bordering the Focal Point area. Besides,all approach and interconnecting roads will be repaired.
The civic body will provide 28 workers on permanent basis for maintaining sewerage and sanitary conditions in the area.
They will work under the guidance and supervision of the Industrial Development Council, said Avtar Singh,general secretary of CICU.
Sharma,meanwhile,asked the Punjab State Electricity Board to make all streetlights functional in the area,saying the corporation had been regularly paying a monthly bill of Rs 5 lakh towards it.
A parking complex is also set to come up in the area,for which land will be allotted by the Punjab State Industrial Export Corporation. To counter the water scarcity in the area,two new tube wells have been planned too.
