Minister for Health and Family Welfare,Professor Laxmi Kanta Chawla,on Saturday visited Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI),Ludhiana to meet children who have undergone treatment under a joint scheme of the National Rural Health Mission and the Government of Punjab. Under this scheme, children suffering from heart diseases and studying in government schools in Punjab are provided treatment at select super-specialty hospitals, the cost of which is entirely borne by the Govt. authorities.
The Health Minister interacted with around 250 such children who had gathered at the institute from all over Punjab. The children, along with the hospital staff and famous Comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, participated in an entertainment programme on the occasion. Professor Laxmi Kanta Chawla, said,I am happy to see that the initiative taken by us is serving the purpose that it was supposed to serve. And since young lives are at stake,we ensure that minimal time and paperwork is involved in clearing these cases. All the parents have to do is to first approach the principal of their wards school and then the authorities at Parivar Kalyan Bhavan,Chandigarh where Assistant Director,Health Education, himself takes the initiative to sanction their cases at the earliest.
