Candidates losing no chance to woo voters

The members of Bhatri Yog Sansthan attending yoga class in Satpaul Mittal Park located in Sarabha Nagar had not expected that after their pranayam, they would find the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate standing in front of them for vote appeal.

The members, after closing their eyes, were busy doing alom vilom and meditation. They were taken by surprise when they all opened their eyes and SAD candidate Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, who is contesting from ward number 56,was waiting to make an appeal for votes.

Bhinda, however,is not getting much support even from his own party as he is “an outsider”. In a bid to overcome this electoral handicap,he promised to make a change in the parks of ward number 56.

Bhinda can be seen moving from one park to another early in the morning to make appeals to the voters. A fresher in politics,he still is not very good at making speeches.

Not only Bhinda. Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Malhotra could be seen making voter appeals at Arya Samaj Mandir Model Town by standing outside the temple with folded hands on Sunday. A large number of devotees had gathered at the temple on Sunday because of the annual mahotsav.

So Malhotra did not want to miss this chance.

Not only Malhotra and Bhinda. Other candidates too are busy catching up with voters as per their plans. “It is the only time when the voters are the kings,” said Harpreet Kaur a resident of Sarabha Nagar.

At ward number 59,Congress’s Satwinder Singh Jawaddi,Shiromani Akali Dal ‘s Tanvir Singh Dhaliwal and a few others are contesting. On the death of a local resident,Dhaliwal and Jawaddi rushed to attend the bhog ceremony of the individual.

Independent candidate Gurmail Singh Kala too was seen standing along.

Gurmeet Kaur,a resident of Jawaddi village, said “Although they keep coming to the village once in a while,I have never seen them together at someone’s death. This happens once in five years only.”

The candidates could be seen going to cremation grounds as well to express solidarity with the families for their loss,so as to catch up with the other voters. They also attend religious functions in a bid to meet a gathering at one go.

Road shows in the form of car rallies and scooter too are a part of the current campaign style. Independent candidate Manisha Gipsy was seen in a car and open jeep rally to seek support at Kitchlu Nagar.
