Ban on paddy harvest at night
District Magistrate Rahul Tewari has passed an order under Section 144 of the CrPC that bans the use of combine for harvesting of paddy from 7 pm to 10 am in the district and this order will remain forced October 1,2010 to November 30,2010. The District Magistrate stated that the paddy harvested at night has higher moisture and paddy with higher moisture content was not procured by the government agencies in the mandis,it caused resentment among farmers,leading to law and order problems and farmers face problems to sell their produce in mandi,so that harvesting of paddy banned at the night.
Unidentified men snatch gold chain
Two unidentified youth snatched a gold chain of a Kitchlu Nagar resident and fled from the spot. The incident occurred some 200 metres from the Kitchlu Nagar market police post. An FIR has been registered in this case. S K Narula said,My brother and I had just come back home from market. This incident took place around the afternoon. A boy came up to me and asked me the residence of some Gurdial Singh. Bending down to pick up bags,I told the boy that there was no one by name of Gurdial Singh in this lane and as I straightened up this boy grabbed at my throat,snatched the chain and ran towards the main road.
Narula and his brother ran after the boy,But there was another boy waiting for this thief. The duo fled on motorcycle.
BSP members begin hunger strike
Irked over the callous attitude of successive governments and the district administration in according due respect to freedom fighters and architect of the Constitution Dr B R Ambdekar,members of the Bahujan Samaj Party sat on hunger strike on Monday. The members led by senior leader Ramanjit Singh Lali began their hunger strike at Jalandhar Bypass. Lali said,It has been nearly 15 years now that a foundation stone was laid near the building of Punjab Agro in the city. A memorial was to come up here but till date only a foundation stone stands at this point. We have tried taking up this issue with the district administration but till time no one is ready to listen to us and thus we are forced to take this step. The leader added,If the government did not listen to us or the district administration failed to act,this chain hunger strike will turn into fast unto death. We will also block the main roads of the city and bring the entire city to a stand still.
Students counselling cell inaugurated at PAU
Dr Arvind Kumar,Deputy Director General (Education),ICAR,today inaugurated the PAU Counseling Cell,located at the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAE&T). The Counseling Cell has been set up under the ICAR scheme,Strengthening and development of agricultural education for counseling of students / tutorials for SC/ST students. A facility of video-conferencing is also going to be provided in the cell. Dr. Kumar said that counseling plays a positive impact in preparing students for the interviews,group discussions and ultimately getting placed with reputed companies and firms. He appreciated the placement record of the College. Later,Dr. Kumar was shown round the laboratories for training of students created in the College by M/s CLAAS India and M/s New Holland Tractors. Dr. Kumar said that the M. Tech. and Ph. D students should be made aware about intellectual property rights for their innovations,new designs,etc. The Dean,Postgraduate Studies,Dr S K Mann apprised Dr Kumar with the facilities in the University for postgraduate teaching and highlighted the important role that the PAU Counseling Cell,School of Information Technology,Electron Microscopy and Nano-science Laboratory,School of Agricultural Biotechnology are playing in education and training. She presented a memento to Dr. Kumar on this occasion.

Dayanand Medical College and Hospital today celebrated World Alzheimers Day. On this occasion,Dr Navkiran Mahajan,Associate Professor of Psychiatry,said World Alzheimers Day was the opportunity to raise awareness about Alzheimers and its impact on our families and communities. The number of persons suffering from dementia is expected to double in next twenty years. A new case of Alzheimer disease is being diagnosed every seventy one seconds in the world. College of Nursing,Christian Medical College and Hospital also organized World Alzheimers Day on the theme Dementia
