Citizens urged to help 26-year-old
Twenty-six-year-old Puneet,a resident of Ludhiana,has been undergoing bi-weekly dialysis at DMCH. According to doctors treating him,Puneet is suffering from renal failure and has been on dialysis for the past four years. His father,Ishwar Chander,is bedridden with chronic arthritis. The family has exhausted all its financial resources for Puneets treatment and the hospital authorities have made an appeal on behalf of the family for monetary help for Puneet. The money can be sent by cheque/ draft in favour of Dayanand Medical College & Hospital with Treatment for Puneet,along with C R No 89816 written on the back of the cheque/ draft. Tainted firm loses MC contract
Street lighting projects worth more than Rs 20 lakh were cancelled by municipal corporation officers at a Finance and Contract Committee meeting on Saturday as the bids were offered by a construction company whose contractor was involved in the fake bill scam. The decision was taken after engineers saw the name of the construction company and stated that contractor Varinder Kumar has floated a new company in this name and should,hence,not be allowed to get these contracts. The members agreed to this suggestion and the contracts were cancelled. These will be called again,revealed sources. In the Rs 75 lakh fake bill scam,some officers have been suspended but no action has been taken so far against any of the contractors.
DMCH organises free camp for poor
Department of Orthopedics,Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH),on Monday organised a free ortho camp to register poor patients for free hip and knee replacement surgeries. DMCH in collaboration with Rubin Institute,USA,will be carrying out free hip and knee replacement surgeries for the poor patients under the proposed project of Operation Walk. As many as 150 patients were examined in todays camp. The next camp is scheduled to be held on September 26.
HC notice to Ludhiana DC
Taking a strong note of the delay being caused in allotment of houses to 1984 riot affected victims,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued show-cause notices to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ludhiana. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Ajay Tewari was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Danga Peerat Welfare Society,an NGO based in Punjab. The petitioner had sought allotment of houses to eligible riot-affected victims. On the last hearing,the court had directed the authorities to allot houses to the affected families. An affidavit was filed by the state on Monday,stating that the Ludhiana DC had written to the secretary,Department of Rehabilitation,Resettlement and Disaster Management,requesting him for extension of time for the allotments up to December 31.
