On a searing hot Sunday,top leaders of the SAD-BJP combine and the Congress slogged out to garner public support for their respective candidates. While Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal spent the whole day canvassing in the city for SAD-BJP candidate Gurcharan Singh Galib,Congress candidate Manish Tewari,along with senior party leaders and workers,organised a padyatra and a door-to-door campaign in the Ludhiana West constituency.
During campaigning,CM Badal claimed there was a strong wave of support for SAD-BJP candidates in Punjab,yet the veteran leader left no stone unturned and spent the entire day campaigning for Galib. He advised party leaders and workers,There is no scope for complacency: we must make best use of the support wave in our favour. We should locate weak links,if any,in our campaign and make efforts to remove the same.
Badal also addressed a series of public meetings and rallies at Midha Chowk,Daba Road,Sport Stadium,Phullanwal,Salem Tabri,and Atam Nagar among others. Having started the day early,Badal attended meetings and rallies in the city till late evening.
Besides Badal,SAD-BJP candidate Gurcharan Singh Galib,Tourism Minister Hira Singh Gabaria,Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosain,Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda,Member of Parliament Sharanjit Singh Dhillon,Soni Galib,former minister Jagdish Singh Garcha,Mayor Hakam Singh Gyaspura,Deputy Mayor Sunita Agarwal,Members of Legislative Assembly Darshan Singh Shivalik,Harish Bedi,former MP Amrik Singh Aliwal,Zila Parishad Chairman Manpreet Singh Ayali,Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board Ajmer Singh Lakhowal,former MLA Ranjit Singh Talwandi,Bhag Singh Malla,District BJP President O P Bharadwaj,Chairman of Verka Milk Plan Ajmer Singh Bhagpur and other leaders attended and addressed these meetings.
Congress candidate Manish Tewaris poll campaign was not left far behind.
Apart from his padyatra in the Ludhiana West constituency,he also conducted a padyatra in Sham Nagar area that included former Minister of State Harnam Dass Johar,District Youth Congress Ludhiana president Dimple Rana and D P Randhawa. Addressing the meetings,Tewari said Opposition parties were issuing senseless statements against the Congress and UPA prime ministerial candidate Manmohan Singh as they were left with no issues of importance and feared their defeat.
On Saturday evening,Tewari took out a padyatra in Gandhi Nagar Market in Ludhiana North constituency and conducted a door-to-door campaign with residents in the area.
