BJP member opposes short term tenders for hoardings

While the MC is still working on its new advertising policy, it,however,has incurred heavy losses in past with contractors allotting more than the sanctioned number of sites to clients but paying the MC only for the sanctioned ones.

“The MC should keep the boards empty till a re-survey of whole city and till every site gets an unique identity number. Tenders should be re-allotted in a transparent manner so that illegal hoardings and oversized ones blocking footpaths and roads are removed,” BJP councillor Inder Aggarwal said. He also submitted a letter to Zonal Commissioner (D) Isha Kalia in this regard on Tuesday.

As per MC official records,it has sanctioned only 220 unipoles,38 overhead signages,4 foot-over bridges,6 roundabouts and 9 kiosks on roads while it has allowed advertisements at 12 garbage collection centres and at some pillars. On the ground,however,the actual number of illegal hoardings and boards exceed thousands in the city. The zonal commissioner,however,ruled out the use of short term tenders. “Yes,some contractors have submitted their proposals but we will consider them only after the new policy and short term tenders will not be awarded,” Isha Kalia said.
