I-T surveys yield Rs 7 crore

Ludhiana: Income tax range 5 conducted surveys which concluded today. The companies surrendered Rs 7 crore out of which Rs 2.5 crore was surrendered by Garg furnace and Rs 4.5 crore by allied recycling,allied multimetal and Krishna multimetal. The department has shortlisted more companies which will be surveyed in the coming days.

Teacher passes away

Ludhiana: Noted educationist Prof S K Thaper,71,died late on Tuesday night after a brief illness. Thaper was an English lecturer at SCD Government College,Ludhiana for 30 years. He was re-appointed as deputy chairman of PU regional centre,Muktsar,where he worked till 2001. Thaper authored various books on art of essay writing,paragraph writing,etc. Bhog ceremony will be on September 23 at Ram Darbar Mandir Kitchlu Nagar from 2 to 3 pm.

Labourers protest

Ludhiana: Workers of more than 85 companies in Moti Nagar,Rahon Road,GT Road and many other localities have gone on strike. Today they staged a dharna outside labour office in which they demanded hike in per piece rate,minimum wages,etc. Lakhwinder Singh,resident of the Karkhana Mazdoor Union said that a meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow,after today’s meeting failed to yield a solution.

Pashu Palan Mela

Ludhiana: The Pashu Palan Mela of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University,promises to be a useful event for people of all the walks of life. The mela will be held on September 22 and 23.
