A seven-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed to death by her alcoholic relative and her body was recovered from Ganda Nullah on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Sharda, 7, a resident of Kundanpuri.
Few hours after the incident, the police cracked the case by arresting the accused who is a relative of the victim. The police arrested the accused on Tuesday morning and later recovered the body.
The police claimed that the accused, Videshi Kumar, a resident of Hargobind Nagar, murdered the seven-year-old as he wanted to settle scores with the victim’s father over some monetary issues.
The police registered a case against the accused following the statement of Ram Kumar, the victim’s father.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrik Singh Powar said the father of the deceased used to run an embroidery workshop at his house and the accused used to work there.
The complainant told the police that on Monday evening, the accused took away his daughter on the pretext of buying Holi colours. The accused and the victim did not return till late night and then the complainant reached the house of the accused. The accused was under the influence of liquor and he told the complainant’s family that their daughter had been murdered.
The police also recovered a scissors which the accused used to stab the victim.
A case has been registered against the accused at division number 4 police station under sections 302 and 201 of the IPC.
