Party secretary has been expelled for six years

A day after UPCC secretary Ram Lotan Nishad wrote to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, requesting her not to nominate Rita Bahuguna Joshi as the Uttar Pradesh party chief for another term, the state unit expelled him for six years on Tuesday for indulging in anti-party activities.

According to Congress spokesperson Dwijendra Tripathi, the action was taken as Nishad had failed to explain certain “objectionable comments” he had made about senior leaders — including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi — about two months ago.

At that time,Nishad was suspended and served a showcause notice. “There were also allegations that Nishad had collected a lot of money in the name of organising programmes for the backward and most backward classes but did not utilise it properly,” said Tripathi.

The party also expelled eight Congressmen from Agra for a year, who had forged a photograph where they are posing with Rahul Gandhi.

Ram Krishna Dwivedi,in-charge of the UPCC Disciplinary Committee, said the partymen have been expelled only for a year because they have accepted their mistake and apologised.
