UP Oppn flays BSP stance on Sen

The Opposition parties in the state criticised the Bahujan Samaj Party’s decision to vote against the motion for impeachment of Justice Soumitra Sen on the charges of corruption in the Rajya Sabha.

The Opposition parties in the state on Thursday criticised the Bahujan Samaj Party’s decision to vote against the motion for impeachment of Justice Soumitra Sen on the charges of corruption in the Rajya Sabha.

BSP was the only party that came out in support of the Calcutta High court judge in the Rajya Sabha.

Only a day back,on Wednesday,Chief Minister Mayawati had supported Anna Hazare’s campaign against corruption.

BSP leaders, however, preferred to remain silent over the party’s stand. Despite several attempts, party general secretary Satish Mishra, other MPs and state party president Swami Prasad Maurya could not be contacted.

Reacting to the BSP’s action,Samajwadi Party’s national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Mohan Singh said, “I am not surprised by BSP’s decision.”

Mayawati fears judiciary because of her own indulgence in corruption,he said. “So,her party showed that it is not against a corrupt judge,” he added.

State Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said it is ironical that the BSP’s decision to oppose the impeachment motion came just a day after the Chief Minister had supported Anna Hazare in the name of fighting corruption.
