UP Housing Board cracks down on ‘irregularities’, seeks recovery from officials
According to the report from IIT Roorkee, several building blocks were found unfit for habitation, and the community centre and kiosks were declared unusable.
Due to cracks developing in the RCC columns of these under-construction buildings, the structural strength was tested by IIT Roorkee.The Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Board has taken action against alleged irregularities in 272 buildings, community centre, and kiosk works in Kalindi Vihar, Agra and has also ordered recovery from officials allegedly responsible for the “irregularities.”
According to the board, several irregularities had come to light in the construction of buildings under the Centre’s Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme in Agra city. The construction work of these buildings was carried out in Kalindi Vihar by Construction Division – 29, Agra.
While the construction of 360 buildings in the first pocket has been completed and allotted, serious quality issues were found in the 272 buildings being constructed in the second pocket. Due to cracks developing in the RCC columns of these under-construction buildings, the structural strength was tested by IIT Roorkee.
According to the report from IIT Roorkee, several building blocks were found unfit for habitation, and the community centre and kiosks were declared unusable. Due to these serious irregularities, the expenditure incurred on the construction has been considered wasteful.
According to the report, a financial loss of Rs 5,25,55,589.50 has occurred due to these irregularities. As a result, a departmental inquiry has been constituted against the serving engineers found responsible, and explanatory notices have been issued to the retired officers.
Strict action has been taken against the responsible retired officials in this case. Orders have been issued to recover the said financial loss as civil liability from the then Assistant Engineers J P Garg and D K Sharma, and the then Executive Engineer Roshan Lal Arya.
Further, orders have been issued to recover the amount from the pension of the then Assistant Engineer, now retired, Satyendra Kumar Pachauri. Also, Neha Singh, who was then Assistant Engineer and is now Executive Engineer, has been given an adverse entry in her service record, and recovery orders have been issued to deduct the financial loss from her salary.
