The UP Police Saturday arrested two more MLAs Sangeet Singh Som of BJP and Noor Saleem Rana of BSP on charges of delivering inflammatory speeches in Muzaffarnagar that incited violence resulting in 39 deaths. Another BJP MLA,Suresh Rana, was arrested in Lucknow on the same charges yesterday.
All three MLAs were produced before a local court in Muzaffarnagar today. While Som and Suresh Rana were transferred to Auraiya and Banda district jails, respectively,Noor Saleem Rana was sent in judicial custody in Muzaffarnagar jail.
The three were arrested after the UP Police recently procured non-bailable warrants against them from a Muzaffarnagar court.
IG,Law and order,Raj Kumar Vishwakarma said Som was held in Meerut while Noor Saleem Rana was arrested in Muzaffarnagar.
Soms supporters, however, said the MLA surrendered before the police.
The police said Saleem Rana, who represents Charthawal seat in Muzaffarnagar,is accused of delivering inflammatory speeches during the August 30 demonstration in Muzaffarnagar.
Som,the BJP legislator from Sardhana constituency in Meerut,is accused of allegedly sharing a video which provoked communal tension in Muzaffarnagar and also of making inflammatory speeches at a mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar on September 7.
The IG added that the investigators found that the video, which purportedly showed two Jat youths being lynched in Kawaal village in Muzaffarnagar, had no links with the incident.
All three MLAs have been sent to 14-day judicial custody. The three have filed bail applications that would be heard on September 24.
