Third Front a myth: Advani

Dismissing the talks of the Third Front as a myth,BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani said on Thursday that the Third Front has never been in power and never will be without the support of either the BJP or the Congress.

Dismissing the talks of the Third Front as a myth,BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani said on Thursday that the Third Front has never been in power and never will be without the support of either the BJP or the Congress.

“They (the Third Front) cannot give the country an able PM. They need the support of either BJP or Congress,” said Advani, addressing an election rally at KP College ground in Allahabad. “The only prime minister from the Third Front was V P Singh, but he too was made PM only after the BJP extended its support.”

Later, playing the Hindutva card at the Sangam,Advani said,“I would be happy to see Ram temple at Ayodhya.” The BJP’s poll agenda has clearly put emphasis on farmers, agriculture, defence and security,he said. “Mere liberalisation will not better the prospects of crores of people living under poverty. Nearly 50,000 farmers committed suicide during the UPA’s tenure whereas not a single suicide was reported during the NDA regime, except in AP,” he said.

Advani urged the people to juxtapose the performance of the Congress and the BJP,and then decide which was better.

Taking a dig at the BSP,the SP and the Congress,he said: “In India, there is a caste-based party,a leader-based party and a family-based party. The BJP is the only party with democratic values.” He said the SP and the BSP were now competing with each other to get ahead in crime and corruption.

Reminding the people of the Pokhran blasts that catapulted India into the nuclear league, the BJP leader said his party will never compromise with nationalism and national security. If the BJP comes to power,it would bring home the black money deposited in Swiss bank. Stating that the BJP lost the 2004 elections due to overconfidence,Advani said,“this time, despite the huge response from all quarters across the country, the party needs micro-level planning to get the majority.”
