MUZAFFARNAGAR: Two persons were arrested and four quintals of allegedly ‘synthetic’ rasgullas seized in the Ramraj area,police said. Acting on a tip-off,police Friday evening intercepted a vehicle,which was carrying the adulterated rasgullas and arrested the duo,identified as Rajiv and Nadin.

Youth gets 10 yrs for raping minor

MUZAFFARNAGAR: A 26-year-old youth has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for abduction and rape of a minor girl. Additional District Sessions Judge Chandra Bhushan Singh Friday imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 on the accused,identified as Raju,and awarded him the sentence,sources said. The girl who was abducted February 16,2012,and raped by ther accused was rescued three months later by the police,sources added.

Jagpal Das is new SP Saharanpur chief

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) has appointed Jagpal Das Gurjar as its district unit president in Saharanpur Saturday. Gurjar is the son of late socialist leader and party’s former state president Ram Sharan Das who died in 2008. Raj Singh Majra,who was the district president,was removed on a complaint of Imran Masood,the candidate from Saharanpur parliamentary seat.

GBTU to focus on frugal engineering

LUCKNOW: Aiming to increase awareness about frugal engineering among students in technical colleges,Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) will be focussing on the concept in the days to come.

GBTU Vice-Chancellor Prof R K Khandal said the idea will first be pushed at Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET,Lucknow) – GBTU’s constituent college – and gradually to other affiliated colleges.

“We will form student groups in IET,which will come up with ideas in frugal engineering. The promising ideas will be pitched to invited industries from whom we will seek collaboration,” said Prof Khandal,on the sidelines of a national workshop on frugal engineering in IET Saturday. “Internally,the focus of IET students will be to design softwares for library,entrance examinations,results,and develop tools for improved communication between teachers and students,and also to come up with ways to utlilise the waste,” he said.
