Tension in Bahraich after rumour leads to arson

Tension prevailed in an area of Bahraich district after people of a community torched nine hutments belonging to another community following a rumour of cow slaughter in Baudi police station area on Thursday.

Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravi Shankar Chhabi said three of the troublemakers involved in the arson have been arrested and police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain peace.

He,however,said the information about the cow slaughter could not be corroborated and they were searching for the rumour-mongers.

He said after hearing about carcass of a cow lying in a field,people of one community set afire one of the hutments. The flames enveloped eight other hutments by the time the locals doused the fire.
