Another protege of Anurag Kashyap to make his directorial debut. Ribhu Dasgupta presents a psycho drama,Michael
His father,Raja Dasgupta, was a popular Bengali filmmaker while his grandfather Harisadhan Dasgupta was a pioneer of Bengali documentary cinema. It was but a matter of time before Ribhu Dasgupta made his cinema debut. I always thought that I would become a cricketer, but filmmaking runs in my blood and I got pulled into it, says the 27 year old.
The film has been co-produced by Ribhus mentor,Anurag Kashyap. He was the first person to whom I showed the first draft of my script in 2009, says Ribhu, who assisted Kashyap in Gulaal (2009). His Michael seems to bears resemblance to last years hit,Vikramaditya Motwanes Udaan. My film has no similarity to Motwanes story. I have attempted at telling a fresh story, says Ribhu, but he admits that he was impressed after reading the rough draft of Motwanes film. Born and raised in Kolkata,Ribhu came to Mumbai in 2005,to pursue a bachelors degree in English but soon dropped out to assist director Amrit Sagar in his war film,1971 . Soon,he had bagged an assistants role in Shashanka Ghoshs,Quick Gun Murugun (2009),followed by a stint with Kashyap in Gulaal. Ribhu is currently working on two scripts,an action-thriller and a comedy. You will never see me making a masala Bollywood film, he adds.
