Former minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Swami Omvesh is likely to join the Samajwadi Party (SP) again. Omvesh met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday and invited Akhilesh for the inauguration of his hospital in Bijnaur.
The arrangement is likely to benefit both. The SP will get a Jat leader in western UP while Omvesh will come out of the oblivion after losing two elections in a row. Omvesh denied he was switching loyalty at the moment, but remains non-committal about the future.
My meeting with Akhilesh and Mulayam Singh was related to permission for starting two paramedical courses at my hospital. The new building of the hospital has to be inaugurated and I requested the CM to do it, he said, and denied that any talk about his joining the SP took place.
However,he said he would take any decision about future according to prevailing conditions and after consulting my workers.
Omvesh had earlier been in SP. He was district president of SP in Bijnaur during 1994. Later,he left SP and joined RLD,won the 2002 election and became Minister of PWD and Sugarcane in the coalition headed by Mayawati. After that,he lost two consecutive elections.
