Acting on a tip-off,the Special Task Force (STF) of UP Police arrested notorious criminal Nasim-ud-din from Kohna in Kanpur on Thursday. Wanted in 10 criminal cases in UP and Chhattisgarh,police had earlier announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for his arrest.

A country-made pistol of 315 bore,three live cartridges,a mobile and a SIM card were recovered from Nasim-ud-din who was on his way to his friend’s house on a rickshaw when he was surrounded by the STF team near the Company Bagh crossing.

A resident of Maudaha in Hamirpur district,Nasim-ud-din is named in cases of murder,kidnapping,extortion,loot,Arms Act and Gangster Act. He shifted his base to Chhattishgarh in 2004 after several cases were registered against him in Hamirpur.

Circle Officer,STF,Subhash Chandra Shakya said Nasim-ud-din was wanted in a murder case of Gappu Sardar in Maudhapara and had been absconding since May 2005. “Nasim-ud-din is a sharp shooter and was hired by a travel agent to kill his professional rival Gappu,” said Shakya. “We are interrogating him in various criminal cases which were carried out by him in last three years,” he added.

Chhattisgarh Police have been informed about Nasim-ud-din’s arrest. “On Friday,a team of Chhattisgarh Police is expected to arrive in Kanpur to question him,” Shakya said.

Tourist robbed in Maharajganj
Faizabad: A British tourist was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight near Sonaouli’s custom check post in Maharajganj district on Wednesday. David Mornan,who was on his way to Nepal,checked into a city hotel,as the Nepalese authorities had sealed the Indo-Nepal border. In the evening,when Mornan came out of the hotel for a walk three armed men snatched his bag,camera,cell phone and nearly $ 1,000 in cash. Mornan,who later lodged a complaint with the local police,said he could not identify the assailants. Maharajganj SP Sajeev Gupta said the police was trying to track down the criminals.
