Mary Kom in medal round
M C Mary Kom began her campaign in the third Asian Indoor Games in dramatic fashion as she was penalised twice for foul play in her 46 kg 9-7 win over Ting Lo Yueh of China in Hanoi,Vietnam to reach the semi-finals. Chhoto Loura scored a 10-2 victory over Sri Lankas Kumari Nilmini to move into the 51 kg semi-finals while Kavita Goyat beat Huong Nguyen Thi Thiu 3-2 to enter the 64 kg final.
Anand takes early lead
World champion Viswanathan Anand took an early lead by winning the first game of the rapid match against former world champion Anatoly Karpov of Russia in Bastia,France. Anand played it safe and got an easy draw with black pieces in the second game to lead the four-game match 1.5-0.5.
Bhullar misses top-10 finish
A couple of late bogeys put paid to Gaganjeet Bhullars hopes of a top-10 finish as he signed off tied 14th after returning a two-under 69 in the final round of the Singapore Open. Bhullar ended his campaign with a total of four-under 280. Jyoti Randhawa ended tied 43rd.
Fisher wins World Match Play
Ross Fisher won the 36-hole World Match Play Championship final on Sunday by beating Anthony Kim 4 and 3. Fisher had an eagle at the par-4 22nd hole and birdie at the par-5 23rd to put him 3-up at the Finca Cortesin golf course. Kim won the next hole but then missed putts on the 25th and 26th holes.
Real win,Barca held
Gonzalo Higuain scored two goals to give 10-man Real Madrid a 2-0 win over Getafe that trimmed Barcelonas lead at the top of the Spanish league to one point after the defending champions drew 1-1 at Osasuna. Higuain put Madrid ahead 1-0 in the 53rd minute and scored his second three minutes later,running on to Karim Benzemas pass and shooting low past goalkeeper Oscar Ustari. Madrid defender Raul Albiol was sent off in the 27th minute.
