An hour-long discussion on alleged anomalies in the award of Rs 2,000 crore contract for the supply of energy food supplement under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme during Mayawatis regime was allowed by Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey in the Assembly on Friday. The date for the discussion will be finalised by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
BJP leader Hukum Singh, who raised the issue by an adjournment notice during Zero Hour, said that during 2011-12,a contract worth Rs 2,000 crore was given to five inter-related firms.
These firms were by different names but their owner were the same. Everybody knows it and the food supplement was sub-standard which was later resold in the market as animal feed, Hukum Singh said.
He also mentioned the names of five firms – Great Value Foods,Health Care Energy Food Private Limited,Christy Friedgram Industry,Trikal Foods and Agro Products Private Limited and PBS Foods Private Limited.
All these firms were inter-related and the tender was grabbed by the cartel. Some officials were also hand-in-glove during the tender allotment, he remarked. Singh, however, did not name any particular person during his speech.
Minister for Basic Education,Child Development and Nutrition Ram Govind Choudhary, however, came out defending the tender process. Every tender is published in a national newspaper. We follow the guidelines by the central government and Supreme Court in this matter. There should be automatic manufacturing plant for manufacturing the food supplement, Choudhary stated.
