SP made UP a failed state during its tenure, BJP converted it to secure one: Adityanath

Adityanath criticised the Samajwadi Party for allegedly failing to give due respect to Chaudhary Charan Singh. Extending his congratulations to all those being conferred with the Bharat Ratna, Adityanath spoke at length about Chaudhary Charan Singh and his connect with the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday hit out at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav accusing him of impoverishing the state during his tenure. The CM claimed that his government converted UP into a “secure state.”

“In the five years of your tenure you gave a ‘failure’ state but we made a secure state. You looted millions and we will give the state one trillion,” Adityanath said while speaking in the UP Legislative Assembly.

In his address, the CM said Akhilesh has problems with the fact that India has become the fifth largest economy in the world. “He has doubts that the country has become the fifth largest economy, he also has a problem that UP becomes number one,” he said.

“When we presented our first budget in 2017, we dedicated it to Lord Ram. It is a matter of luck that when my government has presented its eighth budget, a grand Ram temple has been constructed. This budget is also dedicated to Lord Ram. We have tried to realise the dream of Ram Rajya in this budget,” the CM said, adding, “It may be possible that the Leader of the Opposition has a problem with the size of the budget. In comparison to 2012-2013, the budget is thrice the size and is double in comparison to the budget presented in 2016-17.”

Pointing out the achievements of his government, Adityanath said that the GDP of the state has doubled in the last seven years. Earlier UP contributed only eight per cent but now it contributes 9.2 per cent to the country’s economy and aims to increase this in the next five years. “UP is no longer a Bimaru state. We are a revenue surplus state. This has been done without imposing any new tax. The rates of diesel and petrol are the lowest in UP. And this is a reflection of Ram Rajya,” he said.

Reciting a couplet from the Ramcharitmanas to highlight the kind of taxation in ‘Ram Rajya’, Yogi said, “We managed to increase the revenue by reducing tax theft and plugging leakages of revenue without imposing any new tax.” The Chief Minister also pointed out that,

“UP is second in numbers of filers of Income-tax return which reflects that per capita income in the state has improved.” The unemployment rate in the state has gone down from 19 per cent from before 2017 and 2.4 per cent as of now. It is a result of improved investment opportunities in UP, Adityanath said.

Adityanath took a jibe at Akhilesh Yadav, who targeted BJP for allegedly doing politics in the name of “Ram”, and said that the Opposition is engaged in vote bank politics as it has refused to visit Ayodhya. “Leader of Opposition said that there should not be any politics in the name of Ram, but we never did any politics… Instead we worship him and how can you do politics in the name of someone you worship. We remember him and without him, no work can be done. We greet people by saying Ram Ram,” said Adityanath.

Assembly speaker and CM Yogi Adityanath had invited all members of the UP Assembly to visit Ayodhya on February 11, but Samajwadi Party MLAs did not accepted the invite.

Adityanath alleged that by not going to Ayodhya, SP was engaged in doing politics of vote bank. “Ayodhya nahi jana hai, kyonki vote bank par asar padh jayega to vote bank ki rajneeti aap kar rahe hain hum nahi kar rahe hai, (You are not going to Ayodhya because it might affect your vote bank. You are doing vote bank politics, not us),” said Adityanath, adding that he used to visit Ayodhya, before the temple was made, and that he will continue visiting the temple today and tomorrow.

Informing the House that his government has made provision under the Chief Minister Tourism Promotion scheme to develop at least one place of religious significance in every Assembly constituency in the state, Adityanath alleged that the SP government had put locks in Kashi as well as Mathura, when his Government has removed.

With SP members often reciting Radhe-Radhe, in response of Jai Sri Ram from Treasury benches, Adityanath said, “Aap to Mathura Vrindavan ke liye bhi kuch nahi kar paye they kyonki apko dar lagta tha..Kashi mein SP ki sarkar ne tala band kiya tha, aur Mathura mein bhi janama Bhoomi mein piche park mein tala band kiya tha. Hum logon ne dono jagah tale khulwaye,” (You could not do anything for Mathura-Vrindawan as well as you were afraid. In Kashi, the SP government had put locks and in Mathura also the park behind the Janma Bhoomi was locked. We unlocked both the places.)

Adityanath claimed that “Astha se lekar Artha vyavastha tak (From faith to economy)”, his government has made provisions for overall development of the state including “spiritual tourism”.

SP failed to give due respect to Chaudhary Charan Singh: CM

Adityanath criticised the Samajwadi Party for allegedly failing to give due respect to Chaudhary Charan Singh. Extending his congratulations to all those being conferred with the Bharat Ratna, Adityanath spoke at length about Chaudhary Charan Singh and his connect with the state. He referred Charan Singh as “Kisano ki awaj” and said that “Chaudhary Sahab was connected to Uttar Pradesh both as the Chief Minister as well as Prime Minister of the country and was the voice of crores of farmers. His contribution across segments ranging from revenue to ensuring right to poor, cannot be forgotten.”

Adityanath further claimed that the voice of farmers is being given priority under the Narendra Modi-led government since 2014, as it is following the path shown by Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Targeting Akhilesh Yadav for failing to invoke him during the Budget speech, Adityanath said, “I thought that you would respect Chaudhary Sahab in your speech and while taking about farmers.” “Koi sath mein ane ko tyar nahi hai…Kyonki sabko maloom hai ki kahan kisko dhokha de de (No one is ready to come along…because everyone knows where and how and who would be betrayed),” he further said.

Claiming that others have been doing politics in Charan Singh’s name, Yogi said BJP has given due respect to him. Adityanath said that his government in UP gave a sugar mill to Chhaprauli. Chhaprauli Assembly seat falls under the Baghpat district of UP and was represented by Charan Singh for nearly four decades.
