Red and white are the leitmotif of ‘Intimations’ a series of abstract paintings that went on display at Rashtriya Lalit Kala Akademi,Aliganj from Thursday. “Red denotes materialism and white is the symbol of purity and enlightenment,” says artist Sushma Agrawal (inset) with reference to her work at the opening of her solo exhibition. “Through the various paintings there is a depiction of peace that lies at the end of turmoil…it is an expression of one’s connect with nature and all the worldly elements and a journey towards self-realisation,” she explains. Recipient of UP Chief Minister’s Award,1964 and Gold Medal at the Agnipath All India Art Exhibition,2005 among several accolades,Agrawal’s work has gone on display at the Rashtrapati Bhawan too,where former President APJ Abdul Kalam described her work as a guiding light for the youth. The exhibition is on till March 20 and the paintings are also up for sale.
