In a bid to win the support of locals in the remote Naxal-affected areas, the Sonbhadra police have started a 10-day coaching course for 224 aspirants of the UP Police constables who are set to take the written examination on March 28. A majority of these aspirants belong to different tribal communities and are natives of places like Kon,Windamganj,Manchi,Raipur,Robertsganj,Pannuganj,Chopan,Duddhi and Cheruee all areas lying on borders of Jharkhand,Bihar and Chhatisgarh.
Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police (SP) Preetinder Singh said: The initiative was taken following information gathered by the intelligence wing about the candidates selected for the exam from these areas. Since these remote areas are cut off from the city, the aspirants do not have any arrangement to prepare for the test.
He added: I spoke to the Basic Shikha Adhikari (BSA) of the district to provide some efficient teachers for taking classes. The local police in these areas contacted the aspirants and 219 boys and 25 girls arrived here for the classes that began on March 10 at the Jai Jyoti Inter College in the city.
The college principal along with a group of 13 teachers take classes on various subjects based on the model question paper provided for the written exam, said Singh.
Each morning students are given question papers based on the lessons taught a day earlier. Even as the classes are scheduled to be concluded on March 20,the students will be able to access the papers for revision till March 28 the scheduled date for the exam ,added Singh. The SP,ASP,DSP and Inspectors also take classes and brief students on the basics of policing. Sonbhadra ASP Girijesh Kumar looks after the arrangements at the centre. The candidates are lodged at a nearby higher secondary school.
