SDM’s car kills boy,drives on

The official vehicle of a sub-divisional magistrate of Rae Bareli district hit a seven-year-old boy,killing him on the spot in Unchahar area of the district on Thursday evening.

The official vehicle of a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Rae Bareli district hit a seven-year-old boy,killing him on the spot in Unchahar area of the district on Thursday evening. The driver did not stop after the accident and sped away with the SDM sitting inside the vehicle.

Angry locals blocked the Lucknow-Allahabad Road demanding action against the official and his driver.

The driver was yet to be arrested till late in the night.

Rae Bareli District Magistrate (DM) G Sriniwas said action will be initiated against the SDM,as despite being an official in the administration,he did not stop and help the victim.

The driver will also be arrested,he added.

Rae Bareli SP Love Kumar said Unchahar SDM Surendra Kumar was coming towards the city in his official vehicle (Tata Sumo) when the driver hit a boy,Abhimat, who was walking beside the road around 4.30 pm. He said the driver did not stop the vehicle to take the boy to the hospital.

The locals later took the boy to the district hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Station Officer (SO) of Unchahar police station,Ram Prakash Yadav said action will be initiated in the case on Friday,as they are yet to get the driver’s name and the number of the SDM’s vehicle.

The SO said the boy belonged to Fatehpur district and he was staying at his maternal uncle’s home in Unchahar area for the last few days. He had come to visit a religious place and was returning home with relatives when the SDM’s vehicle hit him,Yadav added.
