Scuffle over ‘damage’ to mosque,cop suspended

A mob created a ruckus in Lucknow’s Naka area and pelted stones on a police party and locals on Tuesday evening after rumours spread that a police official had entered Ayesha Masjid with his shoes on and caused damage to it.

A mob created a ruckus in Lucknow’s Naka area and pelted stones on a police party and locals on Tuesday evening after rumours spread that a police official had entered Ayesha Masjid with his shoes on and caused damage to it. Inspector Sarang Dhar Dwivedi of Naka police station was later suspended.

Following a complaint by the owner of the adjacent Bajpai hotel in the court against the alleged illegal construction by mosque caretakers,a police contingent was deployed on the spot before the visit of a court appointed panel visit for inspection. Tension gripped the area when rumours spread that mosque was to be demolished and that Naka police station inspector had entered the place with his shoes on. District Magistrate Anil Sagar and DIG D K Thakur reached the spot and brought the situation under control. After they left,the crowd indulged into brick-batting.
