Samajwadi Party MLA’s nephew booked for ‘molesting’ neighbour

Samajwadi Party MLA Zahid Beig’s nephew has been booked for allegedly molesting and physically assaulting a girl in Bhadohi town, police said Sunday.

The incident occurred on Friday evening around 5.30 pm when Shadab, Beig’s nephew, allegedly grabbed a girl, who lives in the same locality as him, on the road and slapped her and tore some of her clothes, police said.

Police lodged an FIR on Friday evening on the complaint of the girl, aged around 19-20 years. She studies at a private institute to become a Chartered Accountant. In her complaint, the girl added that Shadab has also threatened her. The FIR has been lodged under various IPC sections related to molestation, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

SHO Ajay Srivastava said Shadab is currently absconding. He said the houses of the complainant and the accused are close to each other, but despite the girl being Hindu, there is no communal tension reported from the area, he added.

Circle Officer A P Singh said investigation is on and the girl’s statement will be recorded before a magistrate Monday. The MLA could not be reached for his comment, but has reportedly denied association with his nephew.
