In a first,Railway Recruitment Board (RRB),Gorakhpur,has implemented a three-tier digital security system using live video surveillance of examination halls,biometrics and digital photographs to curb malpractices such as impersonation in railway examinations.
Railway officials said the security system was used for the first time in an examination held in Lucknow Sunday when more than 12,000 applicants appeared from 15 centres in the city.
Moradabad Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Manoj Kumar Sharma who supervised the technical aspects,said all the examination halls were equipped with cameras and live visuals were monitored from a control room set-up in the office of Divisional Railway Manager,North Eastern Railway.
Railways recruitment examinations have witnessed numerous cases of cheating and impersonation including some big multi-crore recruitment rackets. Sharma admits there are rackets run for getting candidates selected using fraudulent means and their main target is the RRB exams,for which they charge exorbitant amounts from candidates.
He said officials collected the biometrics and digital photographs of all candidates and the data will be used to match at the time of recruitment of those who qualify the written examination.
RRB,Gorakhpur,carries out recruitment of Group C staff of headquarter offices,Izzat Nagar,Lucknow and Varanasi divisions of North Eastern Railway,and also for Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO),Lucknow.
