Rita takes a ‘statue’ dig at Maya

The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Tuesday slammed the Mayawati government during her first visit to her hometown,Allahabad,after the Moradabad incident.

“The entire state is reeling under drought but the chief minister is busy installing her statues. The BSP government has sought an additional Rs 550 crore for the purpose in the first supplementary demands for the current year,” Joshi said.

Terming the CB-CID inquiry in the incident of arson at her Lucknow residence an eyewash,she said: “We demand a CBI enquiry,which would expose Mayawati on whose behest her supporters had resorted to violence. The police jailed me merely for voicing the public sentiments against the government.”

Regarding the alleged derogatory remarks she had made against the CM,the Congress leader said,“There is no need to pay attention to my words. People understand my feelings in the outburst and I have already tendered my apology for the statement if it hurt anyone.”
