Jewellers have always been vending rakhis made of gold and silver, but options in the yellow metal never came this cheap. This is 24 karat gold hammered into sheets of .5mm and blended with silicon out of which we have designed the rakhis, says fifth generation goldsmith from Mumbai Kaivan Shah of Arya,a division of their gold and diamond business, which designs variety of stuff that bears value of gold but not the price tag. The rakhis are Rs 200 each.
We set the gold sheets on silicon and shape it into jewelry, artefacts and merchandise and gift items like keychains, etc for corporate houses too, says Shah, handing out a golden business card with there is gold in this too!
The group offers even region-specific creations like an image of the Golden Temple. There are Ayappa and Murugan for the south Indian market and Ganpati,Durga,Shiva for the north, east and west Indians.
