Police inspector in Lucknow shot dead outside his house

Satish Kumar and his family had returned home after dinner at a relative’s place. He stepped out of his vehicle and was on his way to open the main gate to their house when a man shot him, the police said.

A 48-year-old police inspector in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow was shot dead outside his house in the city’s Manas Nagar area early Monday morning.

The police identified the deceased as Satish Kumar, a quartermaster at 4th Battalion Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Prayagraj. They said that the incident occurred when he, his wife and daughter returned home after dinner at a relative’s house.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, Vineet Jaiswal said efforts were being made to solve the case. No arrests have been made yet and the police are collecting footage from the CCTVs in the area. Meanwhile, the family said that Kumar did not have enmity with anybody.

According to the police, at around 2 am on Monday, Kumar, his wife Bhawana and their 10-year-old daughter reached home from a relative’s house. Kumar stepped out of their vehicle to open the main gate when a man allegedly shot him. While Kumar fell to the ground, the shooter escaped. Bhawana’s cries for help alerted people, who rushed Kumar to a hospital but he was declared dead.

A Rae Bareli native, Kumar had joined the police force in 2007 and got married in 2011. He was the youngest of three brothers.
