Players put forth their problems,offered ‘instant solutions’

The lunch organised after the felicitation function held in honour of state players who won medals at the Commonwealth Games 2010 and the Guangzhou Asian Games turned into a blessing in disguise for the players.

Players who were quite hesitant to come up with their problems gathered courage and apprised the Chief Minister about the problems. The lead was taken by wrestler Alka Tomar and gymnast Ashish Kumar followed her. Soon after the Chief Minister left the lunch venue,senior officials were seen requesting the awardees to assemble for a meeting where their problems would be heard. Top government officials attended the meet and what came out could be termed as “on the spot solutions.”

International wrestler Alka Tomar of Meerut and international hockey player from Allahabad got jobs with the UP Power Corporation as Sports Officers. Commonwealth Games silver medallist Soniya Chanu who wanted good facilties at the weight-lifting hall of the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium and apprised that she may have to shift from quarter to quarter in future due to a transferable job,a government house has been allotted to her at Indira Nagar,Lucknow.

The Chief Minister directed the officials that they should ensure amendments are made with immediate effect in service rules pertaining to the promotion of players employed with the Uttar Pradesh Police from Sub Inspector to Inspectors and from Inspectors to DSP. She has said that medal winning players who are not working anywhere “should be offered honourable jobs in different public enterprizes.” Adhering to the CM’s directives,Alka Tomar and Danish Mujtaba got jobs in UP Power Corporation as Sports Officers. They got appointment letters and also joined duties by Friday evening.

In order to provide international level facilities to National Sports Academy,Allahabad the CM has announced providing Rs 15 crore and three international level gymnastic coaches there. The CM has announced providing Rs 15 crore for ensuring international level facilities in Western UP in wrestling,weightlifting,kabaddi,volleyball,basketball and rowing. She also announced for development of rowing facility at Gorakhpur’s Ramgarh Tal and Upper Ganga Canal.

She has directed the officials to ensure putting of astro-turf at Lucknow,Jhansi,Varanasi and Saharanpur and ensuring of new equipment at KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium’s weightlifting hall. She also directed that the honorarium of international level coaches working on contract basis be increased.

Talking to The Indian Express,Alka Tomar informed,” I have joined my job as sports officer around 7.00 pm today. I am very happy that I have got a job which has to do with sports.”

“I was the first one to tell the Chief Minister about my problems. I had asked other players to tell their problems but they were hesitant so I took the lead. I told the Chief Minister about my achievements and the fact that I was offered a job as DSP in Haryana but I want to work in my home state. Now that I have got a job,I will soon be reaching Delhi and resign from my job at MTNL,Delhi.”

Tushar said that he had requested for a astro-turf at Jhansi and a Laxman Award from the state and he had got positive response on both the issues. Rower Lokesh Kumar also said that the officials gave a patient hearing to him.
