One month,1,000 traffic violations in Noida

Noida: The Noida Police have fined more than 1,000 motorists in the last week days as part of a month-long traffic awarness drive.

Senior police officials said over 1,071 challans have been issued and that the maximum number of fines had been given to motorcyclists not wearing helmets.

“We have issued 159 challans to people for driving without helmets and 132 for driving without seatbelts. Over 100 people have been caught for jumping traffic signals,while 64 challans have been handed out for driving on the wrong side of the road,” a senior police official said.

Sisters fall in boiling syrup,killed

Sitapur: Two sisters were killed after falling into boiling sugar syrup at their father’s sweet shop in Biswan area here,police said today.

Eight-year-old Kajal was holding her 11-month-old sister Radhika in her arms when she lost her balance and fell into the boiling solution in a huge pan. The incident took place in the house of shop owner Rajkumar Shah yesterday. Both of them were rushed to hospital,where they succumbed.

Seven get life in murder case

Lalitpur: Seven persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court here for killing a man in 2006.

Additional District Judge S S Gupta yesterday held Kapur Singh,Kartar,Jaidev,Bharat,Ram Asrey,Sunder Singh and Chotte Singh guilty of killing Ravindra Singh on April 17,2006. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on each of the accused.
