Noida honour killing: Man held for strangling

In an alleged case of honour killing,a 16-year-old girl was reportedly strangled to death by her father.

In an alleged case of honour killing,a 16-year-old girl was reportedly strangled to death by her father. Police said the girl was killed on March 1 and cremated the same day at the Yamuna Pushta crematorium. The incident came to light after the man,with whom she was reportedly in love,started to inquire about her last week.

The father,Karamveer Singh,has been arrested. According to SSP (Gautam Budh Nagar) S N Singh,the girl was in love with a 27-year-old neighbour,Sanjay,who is married.

Both lived in Yakubpur Village,Noida Phase-II,

“The couple eloped on February 28 after their families asked them to end the relationship,” police said. They reportedly returned to their houses on March 1.

On the same day,the girl’s father decided to send her to another village,police added. While Singh was taking her to the village,she started to protest.

“Just a kilometre from the village,Singh strangled her. He then called two of his nephews and cremated her,” police said.

Being unable to reach her,Sanjay grew suspicious,police said. This was also allegedly reported to the local panchayat.

“On March 11,a panchayat was held where Singh accepted the killing,” the SSP said. “He has been arrested. We are also looking into the possibility of the local panchayat’s involvement in the case,” the officer added.
