Meritorious UP players to be honoured

The Uttar Pradesh government will be giving away around Rs 80 lakhs as prize money to about 255 players who brought laurels to the state at the national level in the year 2009-2010.

The Uttar Pradesh government will be giving away around Rs 80 lakhs as prize money to about 255 players who brought laurels to the state at the national level in the year 2009-2010. The date for the felicitation function is likely to be announced by state sports directorate shortly.

According to sources,in the team event category,each player of a team which claimed a gold at the national level will become richer by Rs 40,000,the silver medal winners will be given Rs 30,000 while the bronze medal winners will be given Rs 20,000 in the senior section. In the junior section,players of team events will be given Rs 30,000 for a gold,Rs 25,000 for a silver and Rs 15,000 for a bronze.

Similarly,in the sub-junior section,Rs 15,000 will be given for a gold,Rs 10,000 for a silver and Rs 5,000 for a bronze.

In the individual category events,Rs 1 lakh will be given to those who won a gold,Rs 75,000 to those who won a silver and Rs 50,000 to those who bagged a bronze in the senior category.

In the junior section,the gold medal winners will be getting Rs 50,000,the silver medallists Rs 35,000 and the bronze medallists Rs 25,000. In the sub-junior section,the gold medal winners will be getting Rs 25,000,the silver medallists will become richer by Rs 15,000 while the bronze medallists will be awarded Rs 10,000 as prize money.

Abhas bowls Panthers to victory
A six wicket haul by Abhas Vohra (6 for 15) helped Panther Cricket Academy in defeating Trump Starlets by 40 runs in their league match of the Eram Cup 2010 at Pt. RB Tiwari Stadium,Lucknow on Wednesday.

The tournament is being held under the aegis of Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL).

Batting first,Panthers scored 151 runs losing six wickets in the given 35 overs. In reply,Trump starlets was bowled out at a total of 111 runs in 28.5 overs.

In another league match of the same tourney played at Northern Railway Stadium,Indian Eleven defeated Charminar Club by eight wickets. Puneet Kapoor (5 for 30) and Nishant Bhardwaj (59 runs off 34 balls; 11×4,6×1) were the star performers on behalf of the victors.
