As the Commonwealth Games would also be ‘green games’,therefore,a massive plantation drive will be carried out during the Queen’s Baton’s journey through Lucknow so that it is able to convey the environment related message in a big way and also to make the occasion a memorable one. The Queen’s Baton Relay will reach Lucknow on July 9 and after a night halt,it will leave for Rae Bareli on July 10 after a relay.

DM Lucknow Anil Kumar Sagar informs that “Saplings will be planted at P4 parking of ‘Vrindavan Yojna’ on Rae Bareli Road on July 10. The target for Lucknow is 1 lakh saplings.”

Meanwhile, sources in the Sports Directorate informed that a change in the route of the Baton Relay has been made when the Baton Relay passes through UP in the second phase—September 19 to 22.

Earlier, the Relay was to cover Jhansi and Agra before proceeding towards New Delhi but now it will visit Mathura as well and will have a night halt there on July 21.

“Now the Relay will also be visiting Fatehpur Sikri and Mathura. The change in route has been done so the Baton Relay can visit both these places having great historical importance,” informed an official of the sports department.
