At least four junior engineers (JEs) and one assistant engineer (AE) of the Public Works Department (PWD) have been removed from their current charges after shortcomings were found in the works going on under their supervision for the Mahakumbh.
The engineers have been attached to the office of the Superintending Engineer (SE) till further orders.
The order was passed following preliminary inquiry which revealed shortcomings in quality and execution of constructing road dividers on three main roads in the city. Earlier this week, mela administration officials had lifted samples of road dividers from Tej Bahadur Sapru Marg,Mahatma Gandhi and Stanley Road. The samples were examined by a technical team of the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the mixture of cement and sand in the road dividers being constructed on Tej Bahadur Sapru was highly skewed. JEs Naveen Srivastava and Ajeet Rai were attached to the office of the SE in this connection.
On Mahatma Gandhi Marg,it was found that the road dividers were not constructed in a straight line. Poor quality bricks were found to have been used in the road dividers on Stanley Road. AE Vishal Singh and JEs J P Tiwari and Shamsher Singh have been removed from their current charges in connection with the two roads. The road dividers on all the three roads will be constructed afresh.
