Lucknow to host ECI workshop for booth-level workers’ training

An ECI official said different states have readied their own training modules for the training of BLOs. The module of Gujarat has been recognised by the ECI among the best modules. Now the ECI wants to make a national training module that could be used countrywide.

“Officials will discuss the problems faced by BLOs in the field during voter registration and verification of the applicants,” said an official.

The official said the training module is important because the ECI has recently decided to collect the phone numbers and e-mail addresses of voters and BLOs have to execute that job in next summery revision of the electoral rolls.

Among the states participating in the workshop,assembly elections were held recently in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Elections in Bihar were held last year.

“CEOs and election officials of these states will give their suggestions for drafting of the national training module. If ECI approves,that module will be first adopted in UP for training of BLOs,” said Umesh Sinha,CEO,UP.

In UP,elections are scheduled next year. As per the ECI directives,training of BLOs for voter registration and summery revision in UP has to be completed by October 31. In UP,91.13 per cent voters have been covered in photo electoral roll while 92.98 per cent voters have been issued Electoral Photo Identity Card .
